Team meeting over for the evening and we’ve had a nice relaxing day before GAME ON tomorrow!!
The pre-tour has taken us through Hyde Park, Bath, Bristol and now back to London. We’ve enjoyed two wins from two games on the road –
vs NZ 14-8
vs Team Canada 10-9
Injuries are being managed well so far and twenty-two fit and mentally strong athletes are so ready to take the field tomorrow. We have been loving all the support we have been hearing from near and far. Get around us!!!!
Sunday 19th – 17:30: Spain (field 23)
Super keen to give our legs a run around, this will be a great opportunity to start the tournament with a hitout against a European team. Spain finished 17th in the Women’s division at Euro Championships in 2015.
Monday 20th – 11:30: Italy (field 3)
The Italian Women have long been strong contenders on the European circuit. They recently beat GB to take third at European Championships in 2015.
Monday 20th – 15:30: Philippines (field 11)
The Phillipines are up-and-comers on the circuit, recruiting coaches from Japan, USA and Australia in the lead-up. This will be the first time the Philippine Ultimate community will field a women’s team for the World Ultimate and Guts Championships. They finished third at the Asia Oceanic Champs last year.
Tuesday 21st – 13:30: Colombia (field 21)
Colombia bring a special breed of athleticism and skill to the game and are the top seed in Pool D. Firetails narrowly bowed out to Colombia in 2012, finishing 5th behind Colombia after a loss in pool play. Colombia and their club team Revolution have been strong contenders in the North American Ultimate circuit.
Wednesday 22nd – 9:30: Russia (field 10)
Russia finished 7th at Euros last year, and club team Cosmic Girls have taken 6th at Windmill windup in 2015. A team we don’t often have the opportunity to see or play, this will be a great match-up.
